Energy

energy is fundamental to our existence and healing potential.

Healing can take many forms but at the end of the day, it comes down to a willingness to ‘be’ with all parts of our existence, both the tangible and the intangible.

Energy

Energy is a concept that can often feel abstract, but at its core, it is fundamental to our existence. Depending on the person you talk to, mentioning the term "energy" in casual conversation might elicit some eye rolls. However, everything around us—plants, animals, objects, and even our thoughts and emotions—consists of energy, vibrating at different frequencies. From a health perspective, energy can be seen as the life force that flows through all living beings, connecting us and influencing our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Different cultures have various names for this life force: "Qi" in Chinese medicine, "Prana" in yoga and Ayurveda, and "Mana" in Melanesian and Polynesian cultures, to name a few. The art of energy healing has existed for millenia.

What does this have to do with birth?

Birth is a truly primal and energetic experience. While I will write more about the energetics of birth in another post, today I will focus on energy in general and how it shapes our lives. Alongside my work as a HypnoBirthing Childbirth Educator, I also offer energy healing to people beyond the birthing journey. This post is dedicated to that aspect of my work and how I came to it. It’s a long-winded journey, but I hope you’ll read on.

What Is Energy?

To me, energy is the ability to propel or produce change. On a physical level, it manifests in many forms, from the warmth of the sun to the electricity that powers our homes, to the gravitational pull experienced on earth. While we may not consciously perceive these things, we know that they exist and we can tune into the experience of it if we want. It’s similar with our energy system.

Whether we connect with the term "energy" or not, we are all impacted by it—both our own energy (or as the kids say, "vibes") and that of others. You may have experienced the feeling of walking into a room where something intense is happening and the energy shift is immediate and palpable. Everything that happens to us leaves an imprint emotionally, physically, mentally, and energetically. During an energy healing session, I am trained to tap into those imprints to facilitate change in your system.

The idea behind energy healing is that when our energy is balanced and flowing freely, we generally feel good, energized, and healthy. Conversely, when our energy becomes blocked or stagnant due to physical illness or emotional distress, we don’t feel so good. In some energy healing traditions, there is also a belief that all physical and mental disease has a spiritual origin. What you need to take away here, isn’t in the semantics of energy but that by tuning into the subtle aspects of your experience, there can be expansion in your potential for healing.

My Journey into Energy Work

I must admit, I’m not a big fan of the term "energy healer." Why? Because I believe that healing is something you must do for yourself. You cannot heal what you’re not ready to face. No one can force you to feel or change something that isn't already there. That’s why I prefer to call myself an "energy worker." My role is to create a supportive space, attuning to your energy system and working within it to help facilitate the healing you are ready for.

The term "healing" can mean many different things, influenced by various cultures and traditions, which is why I find "energy worker" to be more accurate. When I work with energy, I tune into the subtle signals around us, allowing me to pick up on imprints that may affect your well-being. At the core of it all is intention—both yours and mine.

Honestly, the metaphysical world still feels very mysterious to me. With my analytical background—seven years of university studies and over 15 years in research—it can be overwhelming to conceptualize something that seems so unmeasurable. However, my journey into energy work began with my own experiences, and I believe that, that is our goal in this life, to have an experience. I had been referred to receive some body work for trauma recovery but I had no clue what energy healing was. I wasn’t even someone who did yoga at the time. I used to get impatient with the slow methodical movements and didn’t really grasp what connecting the mind and body was. Like any good researcher though, I remained curious, open to exploring new questions, and willing to experience and observe the results. I guess you could say, I was a receptive skeptic at first. I started practicing energetic self-clearing and meditation about 10 years ago, and the positive changes I noticed were undeniable. For me, slowing down was the big catalyst for change in my life and what propelled me forward.

I have tried nearly every health and healing modality available, and energy work was the missing link that enabled me to transform my life. I see energy healing as a complimentary healing modality. It helps connect to all the other aspects of our health. In that way, I do not believe it should replace traditional medicine or other contemporary therapies but I do think it is key to deepen the healing that’s available.

My journey took a significant turn when I studied at the New Earth Energy School with Ruth Lera, a well-known Yukon healer and meditation teacher. It was there that I had the opportunity to hone my intuition and delve deeper into how I could facilitate healing for others.

How do I approach it?

My role is to create a positive environment for your healing process, providing a supportive space where your mind, body, and energy can connect and heal for the highest good. Just as you can tap into your inner messages through feelings, bodily sensations, and intuitions, I access information by tuning into the subtle messages in your energy, guiding the healing process. You can read more about my process and what you can expect here.

I approach my work from a hands-on perspective. For me, this isn’t just a theoretical concept; it’s a real, lived experience for both myself and those I work with. As we navigate through the energy, I remain attuned to my spiritual communication system, responding to what I see is needed rather than adhering to a prescribed technique. I like to share the visuals, words, and impressions that come through and explain how I’m working within the energy because I believe that your agency and our collective focus hold significant healing power. I always encourage my clients to take what resonates and leave the rest.

In sharing my story, I hope it might ignite some curiosity into your own exploration of energy and the transformative healing potential that exists within us all.

healing is not a finish line but a continuous path of awareness, intention, and personal evolution.
